What Apple Certified Refurbished actually includes
Apple describes its Certified Refurbished programme as a refurbishment process that includes full functional testing. Its programme page says devices are cleaned and inspected, with genuine Apple replacement parts used where needed. These are Apple's own descriptions of its programme, rather than the results of an independent XXL Finds product test. This guide explains that published programme alongside Apple's United States shopping-help instructions for returns, keeping the refurbishment promise separate from the practical steps required when sending a purchase back.
The distinction between sellers matters when reading those return instructions. Apple's United States policy covers purchases made directly from Apple, online or at an Apple Retail Store. Products bought through another retailer instead follow that retailer's returns and refunds policy. Before applying Apple's instructions to a purchase, check who actually sold the item.

Parts, accessories and packaging
The programme page describes genuine Apple replacement parts as being supplied where needed, rather than saying every internal component is replaced. It separately states that refurbished iOS devices come with a new battery and outer shell. That wording names a particular device category: it should not be expanded into a claim that every refurbished Mac receives a new battery. Keep the specific category in Apple's statement when comparing it with the product being considered.
Apple also lists accessories, cables and operating systems among the items supplied with every device. Its Certified Refurbished products are packaged in a new white box, and the programme page advertises free shipping and returns. These statements describe what Apple includes in this programme; they are not independent measurements of battery endurance, cosmetic perfection or future software support.

Warranty and optional additional coverage
Apple's refurbishment page says each Certified Refurbished product includes its standard one-year limited warranty. The same page presents purchasing AppleCare products as an option for additional coverage. Those are distinct statements: included limited-warranty coverage is part of the programme description, while AppleCare is an additional purchase. For Apple Certified Refurbished, distinguish the included one-year limited warranty from optional AppleCare products before deciding whether to purchase additional coverage.
The page also says most Apple hardware comes with up to 90 days of complimentary technical support. Preserve both qualifications when reading that statement: it says most hardware and up to 90 days, rather than promising an identical support entitlement for every possible product. Apple directs customers seeking additional coverage to the AppleCare product appropriate for their device. This overview therefore does not turn the short programme description into a detailed promise about accidental-damage benefits or warranty exclusions.

Returning within 14 calendar days
Apple's United States shopping-help page gives customers 14 calendar days from receipt to return an item purchased online from Apple. Check the receipt date when considering Apple's 14-calendar-day window for an item bought online. The page also asks customers to repackage a return with the cords, adapters and documentation originally included. Keep the original cords, adapters and documentation together if you want to follow Apple's repackaging instructions for a return.
The policy lists exceptions, including electronic software downloads and Apple Gift Cards, and sets specific conditions for software returns. Before requesting a software return, check whether it was installed and whether a printed software licence has a broken packaging seal or sticker. A separate warning addresses iPhone and iPad wireless service: returning the device may not automatically cancel or reset the wireless account. Apple directs customers to their provider about service-cancellation policies and leaves responsibility for the wireless agreement and applicable account fees with the customer.

Signing in and printing a return shipping label
For a shipped return, Apple's instructions begin with signing in to the Order Listing page using the customer's Apple Account. Select the relevant item, open its order details and use the Start a Return link. Apple's subsequent steps ask the customer to confirm the items and initiate the return before printing the shipping label and any required hazardous-material labels. Use the Print Return Label button for the shipping and required hazmat labels specified in Apple's online return instructions.
Apple says customers shipping several boxes should print new labels for each box. Its help page recommends the original packaging when returning a computer, then describes scheduling a carrier pickup or dropping the package at a carrier location. It also provides additional instructions for items worth more than $2,500 shipped from Puerto Rico to the continental United States, including an export declaration. For a Puerto Rico shipment over $2,500 to the continental United States, Apple directs the customer to find the commodity code and file an Export Declaration.

Receiving a refund or requesting an exchange
Apple's Refunds section states that a refund is initiated immediately once Apple receives the returned item. For credit- or debit-card payments, its help page says the refund is sent to the card-issuing bank within five business days after receipt of the return or the relevant cancellation request. For credit- and debit-card refunds, the five-business-day statement concerns payment to the card-issuing bank; Apple separately tells customers to ask that bank when the credit will be posted. Apple directs questions about when a credit appears on the account to the issuing bank.
Refund destinations also depend on the original payment method. For purchases paid with an Apple Gift Card, Apple's refund policy specifies an Apple Gift Card issued by email. Payments from an Apple Account balance normally return to that balance. The page identifies an exception when the balance is at or near its maximum, in which case that refund amount is issued by emailed Apple Gift Card. For exchanges in a United States Apple Store, Apple makes availability a condition and excludes personalized items and custom-configured Macs from in-store exchange. These details are reasons to consult the applicable order and policy before assuming one refund or exchange route fits every purchase.

Returning a gift
Apple's gift-return instructions use a separate Gift Returns page and request either the product serial number or the order number. When the order number is used, the instructions also require the UPC number from the packaging. Only items from one order can be returned at a time through this process. The page asks for contact information before presenting the remaining return instructions, including the prepaid shipping label and any required hazardous-material labels.
After receiving the returned gift items, Apple says it emails the refund as an electronic Apple Gift Card. For a gift return, the stated refund method is an electronic Apple Gift Card rather than the credit- or debit-card route described in Apple's general Refunds section. Apple's help page also says its gift cards can only be used in the country where purchased. Before starting a gift return, have the product serial number or the order number and packaging UPC ready, then follow Apple's Gift Returns page.
